Scott is a graduate from CU Boulder with a Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree in 1982. Upon graduating from CU, Scott worked in the construction field for 3 years before working as an intern architect in Boulder. Scott moved to Lake Forest, IL in 1987 and worked for 6 years for the Martin Design Group, a small design/build firm. Scott and his wife Kate moved back to Colorado in 1993 and Scott founded the company in 1995 with the goal of providing custom architecture and construction for primarily single family residences. Scott was a one man show for the first couple of years of the business before his brother Jim joined the firm. Scott is married to his college sweetheart Kate and is fortunate enough to have raised two beautiful children in the Vail Valley. Scott has served as the President of the Eagle Ranch Homeowners Association (for the past 10 years), served 5 years as the Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission in the Town of Eagle and is currently in his 6th year as a Trustee on the Eagle Town Board of Trustees. Besides spending quite a few evenings in the Eagle Town Hall Scott enjoys skiing, mountain biking, fishing, archery hunting, trail running, golf and paddle surfing (basically doing anything outside). To have spent the last 18 years in the Vail Valley is a dream come true for Scott.
After receiving a degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University in 1987, Jim moved to downtown Chicago and joined a construction consulting firm advising architects, institutions and high-end residential clients on the process of taking a project from pre-construction phase to project close-out. Clients included The Art Institute of Chicago, The University of Chicago, Hansen Lind Meyer Architects and Lewis and Susan Manilow (residential).
After a brief stint developing a second operating unit of a family restaurant chain, Jim returned to the construction industry in 1998, partnering with his brother Scott to establish Scott S. Turnipseed AIA Architecture and Construction, Inc. (SST, AIA).
Since that time, Jim has been involved in all phases of the design/build business, with a particular interest in pre-construction phase budgeting and scheduling and the management of the construction services staff. Jim has also served as an Owner Representative on significant residential projects in the Aspen area. Over the last 25 years, Jim has completed over 100 residential projects in various roles from sweeper of the floors, to advisor to the client, to partner in charge of construction.
